After playing around with Vue6 for a while now and having learned quite a bit about the basics, I came to thinking that I could enhance my images using additional items.
Yet I generally hate using other people's models and stuff in my pictures -- the more popular these are, the more often they're used, the worse it gets!

Well, I wanted to get into 3D-modelling anyway, so I kept looking around for a good tool to start with. I decided that Wings3D
[link] is just what I need at the moment: easy to learn, easy to use, open source... Fine!
I have to confess, that I don't really follow the suggested way in order to learn to use the program. Instead of modelling basic stuff at the beginning (like glasses, cups, etc... -- boring!

) I settled for something bigger for my first project: a Mars station

First results can be found in my gallery, here:

Seriously, I think it doesn't really matter with which object you start, the basic skills are learned anyway. It just takes more time to finish the project, since it requires a hell of a lot of trial and error.
The only thing is, that I still have to render the stuff in Vue. But since it'll be included into landscapes at the moment... Doesn't really matter.
And maybe I'll go for one of the bigger tools like Maya or 3ds Max sometime in the future. We'll see
